Health and Safety | SmileCon

The health and safety of attendees is our top priority. As the COVID-19 situation continues to change, our health and safety policy may evolve to meet current conditions. We will be providing regular updates via e-mail and here on our Health and Safety page. As more large meetings and events are held nationally, ADA continues to learn and adapt best practices to SmileCon™. As an evidence-based organization, we also will continue to follow the science.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Vaccination or Negative Tests Required: All face-to-face attendees, including dentists, dental teams, guests, exhibitors, vendors, and ADA Staff must be fully vaccinated or submit negative COVID-19 test results to obtain their credentials and access to SmileCon.  

ADA has contracted with CLEAR® HEALTH PASS+™ for attendees to easily and securely upload proof of vaccination or negative test results. 

If fully vaccinated, visit https://clear.app.link/ADASMILECON now to securely upload your vaccination verification information. Each individual vaccinated registrant must upload proof of vaccination prior to checking in and receiving their SmileCon credentials in Las Vegas. 

For unvaccinated registrants, visit https://clear.app.link/ADASMILECON within 48 hours prior to arrival to upload your initial negative test result prior to checking in and receiving your SmileCon credentials in Las Vegas. If you are arriving into Las Vegas more than 48 hours prior to collecting your credentials—registration opens Sunday, October 10, you will need to be tested in Las Vegas within 48 hours to receive your credentials. In addition, see item #2 below for more information about subsequent testing every 72 hours throughout SmileCon.

There is no cost for registered attendees to use the CLEAR app, as ADA has already covered these charges.

2. Testing: ALL UNVACCINATED attendees must receive a negative COVID test within 48 hours prior to arrival and check in at SmileCon to receive their credentials. “At home” tests will not be accepted. Approved tests include either an antigen test or a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). 

Examples of available and acceptable NAATs for SARS-CoV-2 include but are not restricted to reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP), transcription-mediated amplification (TMA), nicking enzyme amplification reaction (NEAR), and helicase-dependent amplification (HDA). 

In addition, unvaccinated attendees must test onsite every 72 hours during SmileCon. CLEAR HEALTH PASS+ will monitor and update unvaccinated attendees, ensuring they test at least every 72 hours and upload their negative results accordingly to provide continued access to SmileCon.

If you are vaccinated but have not or cannot provide verification proof by uploading to the CLEAR app, you will follow the unvaccinated protocols within this section.

Testing will be provided onsite at SmileCon for a fee. All costs associated with onsite testing are the sole responsibility of the unvaccinated attendee. More information will be shared soon.

You are not required to use the testing service provided onsite at SmileCon. You may elect to be tested at a nearby testing facility like Walgreens or CVS provided one of the above test types is utilized with results uploaded to your CLEAR profile at least every 72 hours.

3. Enhanced sanitation—ADA will work with venue partners to ensure a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout Mandalay Bay.

4. Increased hand sanitization stations will be provided throughout the event.

5. Mask requirements: Based on the current requirements by the State of Nevada, both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals must wear masks in all indoor public places. Masks will be required during all SmileCon functions regardless of location. Masks may only be removed briefly when actively eating or drinking. Masks will be available should a guest forget theirs.

We will continue to monitor science-based recommendations set forth by the CDC and the State of Nevada. You can also visit LasVegasNevada.gov to read what the State of Nevada is requiring as of Aug. 18, 2021.

Consider registering for Nevada’s health response app at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/covidtrace/. This app helps Nevadans and those who visit protect each other and slow the spread by notifying you if you've likely been exposed to COVID-19.

ADA reserves the right to update this plan, as necessary, in accordance with science and federal, state, local, and Mandalay Bay guidelines.

 

Health & Safety FAQ’s

1. Why is the ADA requiring vaccination verification or negative tests for SmileCon attendees?

a. Simply—to provide a safe environment for all face-to-face attendees at SmileCon based on available evidence. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and reduce the likelihood of serious illness. ADA encourages everyone to get vaccinated.

b. As an alternative to vaccination—ADA is allowing the unvaccinated, or those unwilling to provide proof of vaccination, the option of regular testing, at their expense, to help protect them and all other attendees.

c. Finally, ADA is offering a virtual only component for SmileCon as another way to participate without face-to-face contact if so desired.

2. Why is ADA using CLEAR® HEALTH PASS+™?

a. ADA selected CLEAR as a trusted and recognized name primarily from airport security situations. CLEAR is a secure platform and being used by many venues and meetings across the country.

i. CLEAR® HEALTH PASS+™ is currently being used at Allegiant Field in Las Vegas for Raiders home games, Coors Field home of the Colorado Rockies, Oracle Park home of the San Francisco Giants, Globe Life Field home of the Texas Rangers and many other venues across the country.

3. Will my vaccination or testing information be shared by CLEAR or the ADA?

a. The simple answer is no, but visit CLEAR’s site for details regarding their privacy and security protocols at https://clear.app.link/ADASMILECON. You can review SmileCon’s privacy protocols at https://www.ada.org/en/privacy-policy.

b. ADA is voluntarily receiving vaccination or testing results from attendees themselves, whether uploaded and verified by CLEAR or not, for the sole purpose of making SmileCon as safe as possible for all.

4. Who will be required to verify vaccination status or regular negative tests for SmileCon?

All face-to-face attendees, including dentists, dental team, guests, exhibitors, vendors, and ADA Staff. Delegates, alternates and guests participating in ADA’s House of Delegates will also adhere to these same standards.

5. What if I’ve had COVID-19 and have natural immunity?

Based on available science, this does not satisfy either requirement for SmileCon attendees, vaccination verification or regular negative tests. If you have not been fully vaccinated, you must follow the testing protocols for unvaccinated attendees.
 
6. What if I have medical condition(s) or religious beliefs that do not allow for COVID-19 vaccination?

If you have not been fully vaccinated, you must follow the testing protocols for unvaccinated attendees regardless of the reason(s).

7. I received my vaccination in another country. Can I use CLEAR?

At this time, CLEAR only accepts CDC-approved vaccinations.  If you received your vaccination in another country, please bring a government-issued photo ID and your official vaccination card. The SmileCon team will verify the details in person.

8. What if I don’t have a mobile device capable of downloading apps?  Or I don’t want to disclose this information to CLEAR?

a. ADA will have an analog system in place for individuals who might not have access to a mobile device capable of downloading apps. We will require a government issued photo ID along with your CDC card or negative COVID test result (see acceptable tests above) for a visual verification of the vaccination status or negative result.

b. However, this will cause those attendees added inconvenience and time to verify and maintain access to SmileCon which will be their choice.
